![]() RP: Half-Life for the PlayStation 2 started development more than one year ago. The cooperative Decay missions are the most appealing aspect of the game. How long has the game been in development? From what we've seen of the game, it seems to be finished. Let's talk about Half-Life for the PlayStation 2. We've made some great games, won some awards, sold a lot of copies, helped out the user community, and generally made fans very happy. In any case, Gearbox likes the Half-Life stuff. If we make quality games, no matter what the subject matter is, they will speak for themselves. Now, most people have either forgotten or never knew about that past. Randy Pitchford: When we announced that we were working on Opposing Force, I got some questions about games myself and my partners had been involved with before Gearbox. Certainly Gearbox knows more about that series than any other developer, but do you ever worry that the company will become typecast? GameSpot: So far, all of Gearbox's released games and projects in the works have been related to Half-Life in some way. The infected scientist, a classic mainstay of Half-Life, makes a return in the PlayStation 2 port. Now that the latter game is only a few weeks away from shipping to stores, we took this opportunity to sit down with Gearbox president Randy Pitchford to discuss a number of details about this promising game. Currently, the company is working Counter-Strike: Condition Zero for the PC and a Half-Life conversion for the PlayStation 2. ![]() The company began its run with Opposing Force, the critically acclaimed expansion pack for Half-Life, and then followed it up with Blue Shift, another successful add-on for the classic shooter. We should be able get you fairly close to where survey team had set up, but I fear the likelihood of running into alien creatures is very high.Lately, Texas-based Gearbox Software has been making a name for itself as the premier third-party developer of Half-Life-related games. I'm afraid you're the only one that can do this, seeing as how everyone else will be needed to run the equipment. In order any of us to get out of here alive, someone will need go to the borderworld, and activate the device. We later discovered other methods of aiming the field, but all the equipment in this lab uses the older technology. ![]() We lost contact with the survey group shortly after the device was in place. ![]() This device could then be used as a focal point and relay to aid in the teleportation. Some of the more promising research on the matter led to a device that could be attached to the strange crystalline structures we found in this borderworld. We discovered a strange borderworld that was somehow involved in the process, and this kept us from accurately predicting where any given teleportation event would lead to back on Earth. Calhoun, teleportation isn't as simple as going from point A to point B. Once we were able to consistently create the teleporter field, we ran into new problems. Interestingly, all of their first person models except for the Tau Cannon have Barney's hands on them instead of Gordon's.
